Acceptable Use Policy

PhotoUnfade is a tool for restoring and preserving family photographs — the shoebox of grandparents' wedding pictures, a faded portrait, a water-damaged snapshot. This policy explains what you may and may not use the service for. By uploading any image to PhotoUnfade you agree to this policy and to our Terms of Service.

1. Prohibited content

You must not upload, and must not use PhotoUnfade to process, any image that contains or depicts:

• Nudity or sexual content. Pornography, nudity, exposed genitals, sexual acts, sexually suggestive or provocative material, fetish content, or any image intended for sexual arousal.
• Sexualized images of minors. Any sexual or suggestive depiction of a person who is or appears to be under 18. This includes "restored", enhanced, colorized, de-aged or AI-modified imagery of minors in a sexual context. We have zero tolerance and report such material to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and/or law enforcement, and preserve evidence as required by law.
• Non-consensual intimate imagery. Any sexual or intimate image of a real person created or shared without their consent, including "revenge porn".
• Deepfakes and face manipulation. Using the service to swap, graft, superimpose or manipulate a real person's face onto another body, or to create deceptive likenesses of real people. PhotoUnfade restores the photo you upload — it is not a face-swap or face-manipulation tool and must not be used as one.
• Images of people without rights or consent. Photos you do not own or have permission to process, or processing someone else's likeness in a way that violates their privacy or rights.
• Violent, hateful or otherwise unlawful content. Graphic violence, content inciting hatred, harassment, or any material that is illegal in your jurisdiction.
• Deceptive or fraudulent uses. Altering identity documents, creating false evidence, misrepresenting a restoration as an unaltered original for fraud, or any use designed to deceive.

2. What is allowed

Ordinary family and personal photographs are allowed, even when they show normal, non-sexual situations: a baby in a bath towel, a family at the beach in swimwear, a medical or documentary photo, a wedding or portrait photograph, an artistic non-sexual nude in a legitimate archival context. Our screening is designed to distinguish genuine sexual content from innocent everyday family photos, and we err on the side of preserving family memories.

3. How we enforce this

We do not rely on this policy alone. Every uploaded image is automatically screened by a content-safety classifier before it is processed. Images flagged as containing prohibited sexual or NSFW content are blocked and are not restored, not stored, and not forwarded to our AI processing partner. Screening runs on the image before any output is generated. If our screening system is temporarily unavailable, we fail closed — the request is not processed rather than waved through.

We keep a log of screening decisions for compliance and abuse-prevention purposes. We do not manually review your photos, and blocked images are discarded rather than retained.

4. Consequences of violation

If you use PhotoUnfade in violation of this policy, we may:

• Block the offending request (credits spent on policy-violating uploads are not refunded, to deter abuse);
• Suspend or permanently terminate your account without notice and without a refund of any unused subscription;
• Report the content and any associated account details to law enforcement or to bodies such as NCMEC where the material involves the abuse of a minor or is otherwise illegal; and
• Preserve information as required by law.

5. Reporting abuse

If you encounter content on PhotoUnfade that you believe violates this policy, or if you believe an image of yours was processed without your consent, email hello@photounfade.com. We investigate every report and respond within 3 business days. Reports involving the safety of a minor are treated as urgent.

6. About our technology

PhotoUnfade is an independent product. It is a custom interface built on top of third-party AI image models; it is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the creators of those underlying models. We choose restoration-specific settings and preserve-original-identity prompting so that results keep looking like the people in your photos. Our Privacy Policy explains how uploaded images are handled, processed and deleted.

7. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. The current version is always posted here with its "last updated" date. Continued use of the service after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
